Applications Now Being Accepted for LIHEAP

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program

Applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for the 2016-2017 program year are being accepted at the IMPACT Community Action Partnership office in Ankeny now through April 30, 2017.

The LIHEAP program assists qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters by paying a portion of their primary heating costs. This program is not designed to pay a household’s total energy costs.

The IMPACT Community Action Partnership office is located at 2701 SE Convenience Blvd., Suite 2 in Ankeny. Applications will be taken during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the process takes approximately 30 minutes. All first time applicants must apply in person.

Walk-ins will be accepted during regular application hours and appointments can be scheduled calling 515-965-0429 for interested applicants who are unable to make it in during regular application hours or applicants can request that materials be mailed to their home address. To apply, applicants must bring the following documents:

  • Proof of identification in the form of Social Security cards for all household members. A photo ID is also required for the head of household.
  • Proof of all household members’ gross income for the past three months or for the past calendar year (a copy of your 2015 federal income tax return).
  •  If renting, your landlord’s name, address and telephone number.
  • A copy of your most recent heating/electric bill.


LIHEAP assistance is a one-time payment to your energy provider and it is based on household income, household size, dwelling type, type of fuel and other factors. Eligibility for participation is established according to the following federal income guidelines:

For households with more than six members, add $1,820/$7,280 for each additional member. 



LIHEAP is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services through the Iowa Department of Human Rights/DCAA, and has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs.
