Why is Pleasant Hill conducting a special census?

The City of Pleasant Hill has experienced significant housing growth since the 2020 census, including at least 632 new housing units. We estimate this means nearly 1,700 people are not currently counted in our city. The State of Iowa uses population counts as part of the equations to distribute Road Use Tax and Local Option Sales and Services Tax, meaning our growth will result in additional funds to assist the City in servicing these additional residents and roadways.   Many Des Moines Metro cities are initiating a special census and we want to ensure our population growth is also represented.
