Arbor Day being observed by educating fourth-grade students

Arbor Day is Friday, April 29. The City of Pleasant Hill and Pleasant Hill Lions Club will be observing the day by visiting fourth-graders at Pleasant Hill Elementary and Southeast Polk Four Mile Elementary Schools. A member of the Lions Club and Heath Ellis, Parks & Recreation Supervisor will be educating the students on the importance of trees, how to care for them, and how planting them within our community helps to give back. Plant Some Shade trees available for $30 each

Plant Some Shade® is a residential tree-planting program funded through MidAmerican Energy Company in cooperation with Polk County Conservation, Great Outdoors Foundation and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forestry Bureau. Residents within Pleasant Hill have the opportunity to purchase trees for $30 each to enhance their property. Read more

Fingerprinting Service at the Police Department

Fingerprinting service available at the Police Department

The Pleasant Hill Police Department performs fingerprinting services for the purpose of employment, adoptions and other pre-approved purposes.

The department does not keep a copy of these fingerprints after they are given to the recipients.

The deadline is approaching to apply to be on a Board or Commission

Members of the community can volunteer on a Board or Commission and get involved in their city government. These activities help shape and influence public policy, and some also hear appeals, provide expertise, advocate, receive public concerns, or establish, review, and enforce policies and regulations. Appointments to Pleasant Hill city boards and commissions are made by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.

There will be vacancies on the following city boards and commission, beginning July 1, 2016. Applications will be accepted through May 30, 2016.

To indicate your interest in serving on a board or commission please complete an application form and return it to City Hall at 5160 Maple Drive, Pleasant Hill, IA 50327.

Do you have an ash tree in your yard?

It is estimated there are nearly 1,000 ash trees on private property within Pleasant Hill. The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) has been creeping into more counties within the state, slowly killing ash trees in its path. 

Pleasant Hill Parks is happy to assist you in preparing for EAB with guidance from the experts at Iowa State University Extension & Outreach. For EAB treatment options, the City of Pleasant Hill recommends you contact a licensed professional. Read more
